Our overseas programmes fall into two categories, ARCHIVE and RECENT.

The ARCHIVE programmes are grouped under the 'STEAM ACROSS THE WORLD' banner and are taken from colour cine film apart from a very few sequences in black and white. They contain full informative commentary and usually dubbed sound, although some have live sound taken from the original film.

The RECENT programmes were shot on video format and feature informative commentary and hi-fi sound.

With the exception of 'Steam in the Carpathians Nos. 1 & 2', the programmes in both series feature steam almost entirely in normal service.

Covering the Sivas – Samsun line, the spectacular route to the east through Erzincan and Erzurum and the Elazig – Tatvan line. Classes seen include G8.2, L.M.S. 8F type, G8, 56001 class 2-10-0s and a ‘ Middle East ’ 2-8-2. With sound taken from the original cine film.

19 – BYWAYS OF IBERIA : 50 mins. £17.99.

Broad and metre gauge steam in Portugal, a look at the Northern Spanish minor lines in about 1960 when they were predominantly steam operated and a fascinating array of steam power at work at industrial sites in Northern Spain.

20 – A CENTRAL & NORTHERN EUROPEAN MISCELLANY : 50 mins. £17.99.

Covering the Vordernberg rack line and Donawitz steelworks in Austria followed by main line and industrial locos hard at work in West Germany . Then come two Irish railtours of 1961 and 1964 where locos of the C.I.E. and U.T.A. are seen both on the special trains and in normal service. Finally, there is rare footage of steam in normal service in Denmark , Sweden and Finland in the very early 1960s.

21 – AN EASTERN & SOUTHERN EUROPEAN MISCELLANY : 50 mins. £17.99.

Featuring main line and industrial steam in Poland , narrow and standard gauge steam in East Germany , 141TC and 141TB tanks working out of Paris , a steam excursion on a narrow gauge Swiss tramway, normal and Crosti-boilered locos in Italy in 1972 and a 1980 steam railtour in Greece .

23 – EUROPEAN STEAM FROM THE LINESIDE : 51 mins. £17.99.

4-6-0s, 2-8-0s, 0-6-2Ts, etc. in Finland, such classes as 01, 01.10, 03, 10, 38, 39 and 65 in West Germany, 231E, 231G and 231K Pacifics in Northern France, 241.21xx, 241.4, 240, 242 and 141 in Spain, living antiques in Portugal, 52, 78, 86 and 93 in Austria and 354, 475, 498.0, 524, 555 and 556 in Czechoslovakia.  Mostly taken 1964 - 1970. 

24 - WESTERN TURKEY NUMBER TWO : 51 mins. £17.99

Splendid scenes showing a large variety of steam power on the Izmir suburban services, ancient G10-type 0-10-0s and more modern steam classes on main line duties in the south west, tank locos on pilot duties, a glimpse of the famous Henschel 2-8-2s at Konya and "Skyliner" 2-10-0s hard at work on the Zonguldak line.  Filmed in the mid-1970s.

25 - KENYA 1977 : 54 mins.  £17.99

Views around Nairobi including locos still undergoing heavy overhaul at the works, steam on the Kisumu - Butere line, 29s, 31s and a 60 on the Uganda main line out of Nairobi, the Voi - Taveta line and fine scenes of the famous Class 59 Garratts working heavy freight traffic over the Nairobi - Mombasa main line.

26 - WEST GERMANY NUMBER TWO : 50 mins.  £17.99

Covering visits in 1971 and 1972 featuring the Mosel Valley line, ex-Prussian P8s and T18s and more modern types working in the Black Forest area, Class 001 Pacifics on passenger duties over the heavily graded lines out of Hof and views of D.R. Class 01.5s working into and out of Bebra on the East German traffic.  The programme concludes with scenes of 011 and 012 Pacifics in the Rheine area prior to electrification, not forgetting the Class 043 and 044 2-10-0s on the enormous freight trains for which Rheine was famous. 

27 - SOUTH AFRICAN STEAM VOLUME FOUR : 52 mins. £17.99

All-new  material  from  visits  in  the  1970s and early 1980s covering main lines in the Transvaal and Cape Province. Featuring 15F 4-8-2s on the Springs - Breyten line, GMAs and 19Ds, including the Wardale-modified 2644 in normal service on the Mafeking - Vryburg line, double-headed 25NCs working between Warrenton and Vryburg and condensing and non-condensing 4-8-4s on the Kimberley - De Aar racetrack.  Also atmospheric shed scenes of engines being serviced and at rest.

Covering main lines in the Orange Free State. A comprehensive look at the Bethlehem - Bloemfontein line with 25NC 4-8-4s on the through traffic and 15F 4-8-2s on shorter workings at the Bloemfontein end.  The last days of steam out of Bloemfontein on the main line to Kroonstad, with immaculate Class 23 4-8-2s at Glen and Karee.  More 25NCs hard at work on the Bloemfontein - Kimberley line and as a finale, Wardale-modified 19D 2644 and Class 26 3450 double-headed, followed by more spectacular views of 3450 working singly in normal traffic.

OVERSEAS PROGRAMMES (RECENT).

SUGAR CUBES - 1 : 57 mins. £17.99.

Featuring steam in action at eight mills in the western part of Cuba , taken during the 1999 sugar campaign. Types seen include narrow gauge 2-6-0s and 2-8-0s, a 'Forney' type 0-4-4 tank and large standard gauge 2-8-0s.

SUGAR CUBES - 2 : 57 mins. £17.99.

Covering two standard gauge and two narrow gauge mills in the central part of Cuba during the 1999 sugar campaign. Mills featured are Caracas , Ifrain Alfonso, Espartaco and Pepito Tey.

SUGAR CUBES - 3 : 57 mins. £17.99.

Featuring six mills at the eastern end of Cuba during the 1999 sugar campaign. Types seen range from an immaculate standard gauge 4-6-0 at Ramirez mill to narrow gauge 2-8-0s at Rafael Freyre.

SUGAR CUBES - 4 : 56 mins. £17.99.

Featuring nine mills across the western half of Cuba during the 2001 sugar campaign. Locos are seen on three gauges and range from narrow gauge 2-6-0s to immaculate standard gauge 2-8-0s working both in the mill yards and out in the fields.

SUGAR CUBES - 5 : 53 mins. £17.99.

Covering four standard gauge mills in central Cuba during the 2001 sugar campaign. Locos seen include three immaculate 4-6-0s and an outstandingly clean 2-8-0 plus really large power in the shape of a hefty 2-8-2, all hard at work.

STEAM IN THE CARPATHIANS - 1 : ROMANIA : 56 mins. £17.99. 

Covering a series of October 1999 steam-hauled charter trains on C.F.R. standard and narrow gauge lines as well as visits to two 76cm. gauge forestry systems. Classes featured include 231, 150.1 (Kriegslok), 140 (Pershing), 142, 230, (P8), 50 (G10) and various narrow gauge types.

STEAM IN THE CARPATHIANS - 2 : UKRAINE : 53 mins. £17.99.

Covering a series of October 1999 steam-hauled freight and passenger charter trains in fine scenery. Classes seen (sometimes double-headed) include SO17, P36, Su and L as well as a narrow gauge 0-8-0.

JINGPENG GLORY : 57 mins. £17.99. 

Featuring an early 2000 visit to the last long-distance steam operation in the World. QJ class 2-10-2s toil through mountainous scenery over the line through the Jingpeng Pass in Northern China which was opened as recently as the mid-1990s. Temperatures generally well below freezing ensure dramatic smoke effects.

MINERAL LINES OF CHINA : 55 mins. £17.99.

Featuring four lines in China whose main purpose is the transport of coal, or of materials to service the steel industry. First, pairs of QJs, sometimes banked, toil through a wintry landscape on the coal railway running southwards from Baotou through Dongsheng. Then, JS class 2-8-2s are seen on the short but spectacular Baotou - Shiguai branch. Next, motive power in triplicate is seen as JS and SY class locos battle up the Chengde steelworks branch and finally, more JS class locos are seen at work in the completely different surroundings of southern China on the local railway based on Jinchengjiang. All the scenes were taken between 1999 and 2002.

CHINESE STEAM IN THE 21st CENTURY : 60 mins. £17.99.

Featuring three industrial systems and the remaining steam-worked (in mid-2005) section of the Ji-Tong Railway.  C2 Class 0-8-0s on the 762mm gauge Huanan Coal Railway, SY 2-8-2s in profusion on four systems operated by the Jixi Coal Mining Administration, a JS 2-8-2 hard at work on the grades of the Huludao Limestone Railway and QJs between Daban and Chabuga on the Ji-Tong Railway.  The programme concludes with a late afternoon visit to Daban depot, with marvellous lighting effects. All the scenes were taken in 2004 and 2005.

Secondary lines and branch lines in the Eastern Cape.  The landscape ranges from the magnificently wild and empty scenery of the interior to the more populated coastal area.  Sterkstroom - Maclear, Stormberg - Rosmead,  the Alicedale - Grahamstown - Port Alfred line, East London docks and Fort Beaufort - Seymour.

SOUTH AFRICAN STEAM VOLUME EIGHT  - AVAILABLE SPRING 2009.

Secondary lines and branches in Transvaal, the Orange Free State and Natal. Double-headed 24s on the Breyten - Lothair branch and 19Ds working between Harrismith and Warden, Theunissen and Winburg and on the Springfontein - Koffiefontein line. In Natal, the ex-S.A.R. GF Pacific Garratts are observed hard at work on the Enyati colliery system and the programme concludes on the Natal 2'-0" gauge lines, featuring more Garratts on the Estcourt - Weenen branch and working out of Ixopo.
